Crystal Desert/Ascension
I'm currently at the Crystal Desert, attempting at ascension and I can never manage to get a 'semi-okay' group together (in other words a group that doesnt charge into the giant horde of enemies while the elementalists and the monks have 0 energy!), I hate how the party never listens and constantly kills the entire party!

ascension missions are the missions that seperates the noon from the good players. Dont worry, keep searching for a good group. You can meet some more experienced players there, as in that they have already done ascension, let them lead your group. And about the idiots, there is nothing we can do about it i am afraid.

Desert is an idiot trap, and there are an awful lot of persistent idiots stuck there. My advise? Run the missions with henchies.
Peace,

This is why I like the idea of expansions only being available to ascended characters.

I found it rather easy to hench two of the three missions. As with most, I couldn't clear the snake priest bosses and attending priest in Thirsty River (in part because the boss is positioned in such a way that you cannot direct warrior henches around it to the priest in the back).
It certainly takes much longer to get the hang of it, but once I got the hang of it I could waltz through it. Hope you find as much success w/ henches.

Dunes is cake.
Elona Reach is middlin' tough.
Thristy will annoy you until you figure out it's tricks, then it's middlin' as well.

I spend a good week in the desert running all the ascention missions. I had so many bad pick up groups it's not funny. Elona's reach was hell for me. That took at least 4 days to do, trying to get a good group. Thirsty river on the other hand only took me a day or so .

It took me just one day to do all the three quest. I was unlucky the first couple attempts but finally i found the right party. Thirsty and Elona Reach, i did with the same team. Dunes I was lucky to find a very good party. Ill tell you though it wasn't easy.

I'm curious, what is ascension exactly? You don't lose the ability to go to places you've already been to like Old Ascalon etc or something, do you?

How do you guys even get to these areas?! I was able to get to and finish Elona. However, I am trying to get to Dunes and these darn Sand Elementals rip apart me and my team of henchies. Doesn't take too many. 3 of those suckers and my team gets destroyed. I am scared to join a group for fear of getting them all killed because I am too stupid to know how to beat these things.

Mojo - Avoidance is the best policy. Watch your bubble. Don't touch red. Run your ass off from portal to portal...learn patience and wait for holes to appear to run through monsters.

I found thirsty really fun actually, and not too hard.
Elona Reach kept me annoyed for so long, until I finally ended up in a group with some persistence. They were all too willing to listen to my instructions after having died there twice, and once the group was disciplined enough, the mission wasn't a problem at all. Good times

That's pretty much how I did it, that and getting lucky by resurrecting right near the portals a few times.
I managed Elona on the third go - first time without droppers - and sailed through Dunes on the first attempt but Thirsty River absolutely seems to own me, I tried it with henchies reluctantly and didn't get far and now I'm stuck in a cycle of groups who run off in three different directions at the start. le sigh.

For me the desert was pretty easy, took me about 4 hours to finish the whole thing on my first character.
I think the trick is to magically get a good group, and don't use that stuipd "exploit".
